Leading Lines

El camino del bosque

Ordesa National Park in Huesca, Spain

“Wayfarer, there is no path”

Wayfarer, the only way

Is your footprints and no other.

Wayfarer, there is no way.

Make your way by going farther.

By going farther, make your way

And when you look back,

you see the path

that you will never tread again.

Wayfarer, there is no way;

Only wake-trails on the sea.

(Part of the poem by Antonio Machado

Caminante no hay camino“)

Mal tiempo / Bad weather

Tena Valley in Huesca, Spain

Antonio Machado’s poem invites us to think about life and the imprint we leave on it.

Paseo de Palmeras

Palm Beach, Florida, USA

It seems like an invitation to move on, to create our future in life with every step we take.

Lago La alfranca

The poem offers us life’s teachings, reflections on life, on the importance of the moment and the passage of time.

I hope that the translation that I have found on the internet, is correct and transmits the same message as the original:

“Caminante, son tus huellas
el camino y nada más;
Caminante, no hay camino,
se hace camino al andar.
Al andar se hace el camino,
y al volver la vista atrás
se ve la senda que nunca
se ha de volver a pisar.
Caminante no hay camino
sino estelas en la mar.”

  1. Some incredible images this week Ana and I love your message as well as the poem. Your choices offer a wonderful example of how lines can be used to enhance our images. The opening image is simply stunning.
